My Story’s Done, But NaNoWriMo Isn’t

I’m having some trouble with my novel. At around 37,000 words, my NaNoWriMo story ended. It was over, done, finished. Boom, bang, doneski. I’m happy with it, though I know it needs a lot of editing.

The problem? I still want to win NaNoWriMo. I added another scene yesterday and elaborated on a couple others. Right now I’m working on an epilogue. I’m now at 41,570 words and I’m out of ideas. I can stretch the rest of this epilogue out a bit, but it’s just going to get cut when I’m done. I honestly don’t know if I can squeeze another 8,430 words out of this novel, but I have to try. I’ve come this far and I want that shiny purple badge on my NaNoWriMo profile.

So I’ll keep writing and when November’s over, I’ll cut out the slop and add some words, take away some words, add, take away, add, etc. until I have a polished story I’m proud of. Then, I’ve decided to self-publish my novel. It will be a little experiment and I’ll try to blog about it as much as I can.

Until then, on must I write!
