Today’s post is a little different. It’s not about writing, but rather one of the possible side effects of writing for hours a day–weight gain.
I’ve always been heavy. I was an overweight child and now I’m an overweight young adult. Spending a majority of my days in front of a computer instead of being active doesn’t help. Neither does my love of food. Mmmmmm… food.
Where was I? Oh, right, weight loss. So, I’m trying to lose weight and get healthier. I’m the kind of person who likes to zone out and think while curled up on a couch with some blankets, so becoming more active is proving difficult. I have a stationary bike at home that I try to ride for 30-60 minutes a few times a week, but I slack off a lot. I’ve recently started Jillian Michaels’ 30 Day Shred and completed day 6 of level one last night. For a 20-minute workout, it sure makes me feel the burn.
I’ve also been counting calories on MyFitnessPal.com and sticking to about 1360 calories a day. I get to eat more if I workout, so that’s usually what motivates me to get sweating. (Did I mention I love food?) Overall, I’ve been trying to eat healthier food in smaller proportions.
Since I started my lifestyle change about a month ago, I’ve lost seven pounds. I weigh in again on Saturday, so I’m hoping to see another loss on the scale.
I’ll post updates on this blog as I continue my journey. If you’re trying to lose weight or eat healthier, leave a comment below telling me your game plan. I’d love to hear it!

I have lost 50 lbs over 11ish months, counting calories and exercising, and screwing up a LOT. I use my fitnesspal, but I eat more around 1600 calories, gotta keep that metabolism going! I’m 5’4″, and now 160 lbs.
Wow! Congratulations on your weight loss! I’m only 5’0″ so I need to get to a much healthier weight for my height. It’s not easy, but I know I can do it if I try. I do go over the 1360 some days, and when I exercise I eat a lot more. Once I become steadily more active, I’ll increase my calorie intake, but for now I’m still sedentary haha
I’m only 5′ too so I feel your pain. I need to get up and moving also!
We have so much less surface area to store fat! Well… at least that’s my excuse haha
That’s exactly how I look at it – lol…
